“Joaquin,” Mrs. Legare said, glancing toward the kitchen, “look at Yuehua. After buying groceries and cooking, she’s still in there washing dishes and cleaning up. A girl that diligent is rare these days. She’s thoughtful, considerate, and every time she visits, she cooks delicious food that’s perfect for my condition.”

She sighed contentedly. “The more I think about it, the more I feel Yuehua is the right girl for you — and for our family.”

Mr. Legare nodded in agreement. “Your mother’s right. We both feel the same. Dr. Pollock might come from a good family, but she doesn’t like you. Even if you somehow manage to marry her, she won’t truly care for you — or for us.
