Alex didn’t stop. “Sure, you like Aitana. But you also like her background. Her family’s status, resources, influence — they’d benefit you a lot. Isn’t that why you ignore that young nurse who loves you and instead chase Aitana?”

Joaquin’s face tightened. “I have never tried to use Aitana. If my relatives need help and she wants to help, fine. If not, I would never force her. I love her for who she is, not her family.”

Alex raised a brow. “If Aitana came from the same background as that nurse, would you still be chasing her? Would you still be this persistent?”

Joaquin opened his mouth, then closed it. “There’s no ‘if.’”

“So you do value her background,” Alex concluded.

Joaquin snapped back, “As if you don’t! She comes from a family of doctors. Everyone wishes they had medical connections — who wouldn’t want that advantage?”

Alex shrugged. “I don’t care about her family background. I like her for who she is. And my family’s doing fine — we know plenty of doctors already. I didn’t fall for Aitana because of her connections. I liked her the moment I saw her.”
