Belle tilted her head, confused. “Getting married? Why?”

The old lady chuckled. “Getting married means he’s bringing home a wife — your new seventh aunt. Don’t you want a seventh aunt? Aunt Romina, the one you like so much, is the one your seventh uncle is marrying.”

Belle blinked, still too young to understand. Even after the old lady’s patient explanation, her little face remained puzzled.

The old lady sighed softly and picked her up. “Never mind, sweetheart. You don’t need to understand right now. Just remember that soon there’ll be another person in our family. Your grandparents will be back soon too. Do you miss them?”
