“Aitana, please,” Joaquin pleaded. “Go back! Stop wasting your time on me.”
Without another word, Aitana walked past him and kept going.
“Aitana!” Joaquin called after her and grabbed her hand. “Just give me a chance, okay? I’ll treat you well. I swear, I’ll be good to you for the rest of my life — only you.”
Before Aitana could react, Alex stepped forward and forcefully slapped Joaquin’s hand away.
He hadn’t even held Aitana’s hand before — and now his rival dared to touch her right in front of him? Without asking? Without permission?
“Mr. Legare,” Alex said coldly, “you can talk all you want, but don’t touch Dr. Pollock. She’s already told you she has no feelings for you, yet you’re still pestering her. She doesn’t like you — and, frankly, neither do I.”
Joaquin sneered. “Of course you don’t like me. You’re trying to compete with me for Aitana, aren’t you? Let me tell you something, Mr. York — even if Aitana doesn’t like me, she’d never go for a freeloader like you. Aitana likes capable men. You don’t even have a real job! You’re not worthy to carry her shoes.”
