Alex shook his head. “I don’t want to go back. My injury’s almost healed—no need to recuperate. And the way Mom looks at me… like fire in her eyes. I’d rather stay away.”
Rowan sighed. “Alright. I’ll come see you when I can.”
Rowan brightened. “By the way, got anything good to eat here?”
He stood and started rummaging around.
Alex said dryly, “Find it yourself. If you see something you like, eat it. But if you eat all day long, you’ll get fat.”
Rowan laughed. “Perfect. If I get fat and ugly, no one will want me. Then Mom won’t be able to push me into marriage—no one will want a chubby guy like me.”
