“You’re used to living in a big villa, so of course this doesn’t seem big to you,” Aitana said with a faint smile. “My family built our house ourselves, and it only covers about eighty square meters. When we bought the land, it was just for a storefront. My grandparents bought it when they were middle-aged.
“At that time my father and his siblings were still in school—the youngest was even in kindergarten. But there were so many of us, so to make living more comfortable, they added a few more floors. That way, even when the children grew up, there would still be enough space.”
Now each of her father’s brothers had a floor, and all had started families there. Later, when they made money, they bought houses elsewhere, but that old house remained the true home of the Pollock family—a root they were deeply attached to.
The shop on the first floor was used by her second uncle and aunt for their clinic. Because the building was shared by everyone, they didn’t take advantage; they divided the rent equally among the siblings every month, matching the market price. Whether or not the brothers accepted it, they still paid.
