“What’s there to be afraid of?” River said, smiling at Romina. “They’re not going to eat you. My family will love you. Think about Belle—she adores you! Seren told me that the moment Belle woke up this morning, she started talking about the ‘beautiful auntie’ coming over.”
In truth, River had been worried Romina might be nervous, so he called Serenity and asked her to keep Belle at home. He wanted Romina to have someone to chat with and help her relax.
Even Maverick stayed home instead of going out to play, obediently waiting to meet Aunt Romina.
To Maverick, the adult world changed fast. Just a month ago his mom had taken him and his siblings to Uncle River’s house; now Aunt Romina was going to be their real aunt—River’s future wife.
He’d asked his mother about it, and she explained that Uncle River had always liked Aunt Romina but hadn’t realized his feelings before. Now that he had, their relationship developed quickly.
Maverick didn’t quite understand, and his mom had patted his head, saying he was still too young and would understand when he grew up.
