“Aitana, we haven’t tried yet. How do you know we can’t develop feelings? Love can be cultivated. You won’t know unless you give it a chance.”
He wasn’t going to give up easily. After two years of showing up at the Pollock family clinic, how could he just walk away? With his background and position, Aitana was the best partner he could hope for. Unless she married someone else, he would keep pursuing her.
His mother had told him, a strong woman is afraid of a persistent man. That was why he’d pursued Aitana relentlessly, believing he could slowly win her heart.
He had even shown Aitana’s photo to his parents. They were thrilled, saying she looked blessed—someone who would bring prosperity to her husband. They believed marrying her would elevate his career.
Now he was opening his own clinic; in the future, he dreamed of opening hospitals. Joaquin truly liked Aitana, though of course there were practical considerations too.
“Brother Joaquin,” Aitana said, “I told you I don’t have those feelings for you. There’s no need to try. We’ve known each other for so many years. You often come to my second uncle for medical advice. We see each other constantly. If feelings were going to develop, they already would have. If I liked you, I would have confessed long ago—before you even had to.”
