Aitana, dressed in her white doctor’s coat, was talking with the day-shift physician when Alex walked in carrying a fruit basket on his arm.
“Dr. Pollock,” he said lightly, “my brother sent me another basket of fruit today. There’s so much that I can’t possibly finish it all. At this point, whenever someone brings me fruit, I feel a little nervous. I’m sending this one to you. Please help me eat some. The butler will give the rest to the other staff.”
The day-shift doctor chuckled. “Mr. York, you’ve been here so long it’s like you’ve opened a fruit shop in the ward. Everyone on this floor has been enjoying your free fruit.”
And it was all premium fruit.
Alex had already sent a basket to the day-shift doctor earlier, so when he gave another one to Aitana, no one was surprised.
Aitana quickly stepped forward and took the basket from his arm. “A basket like this is heavy. Your hands haven’t fully healed yet, Mr. York. You shouldn’t be carrying anything.”
