Since Titus wouldn’t be staying long, Sonny wanted to spend as much time as possible with his childhood friend. After Titus returned, Sonny could still go back to the Browns for a few days to accompany his grandparents.
Old Mrs. York sighed softly. “If Belle really fell, you’d be heartbroken.”
Serenity chuckled. “Belle’s smart. She knows falling hurts, so she’s careful.”
It wasn’t like Belle had never fallen before. When she was first learning to walk, she’d fallen countless times. Old Mrs. York had been distressed then too, but she’d known it was part of growing up.
“Grandma.”
Belle finally reached the bottom of the stairs. She held out her little arms expectantly.
Smiling, Old Mrs. York scooped her up, glowing with affection. Serenity instinctively reached to help, but the old lady shook her head.
