Camryn continued, “Nancy’s parents are civil servants. After the two-child policy changed, they had a son. Her little brother is still in elementary school. Trenton says he’s a good kid, and that the siblings are close.
“But there’s nearly a 20-year age gap between them. Her parents are older now, and her brother’s still young. Even with pensions, raising a child gets more expensive over time. There’s a real chance her parents won’t be able to fully support him.”
She sighed and said, “Nancy will feel obligated as an older sister. I’d overlook it if she were just helping with homework or buying a few books. But what worries me is if she ends up buying him a house, a car, or even giving him a dowry someday. Some people think it’s their duty—they don’t even see it as a burden.”
Camryn paused.
“For now, Nancy doesn’t seem like that type—her parents are healthy and taking care of everything. But who knows what the future holds? Nancy clearly loves her little brother and won’t ignore his needs.”
Callum gently responded, “There’s no need to rush. Let Trenton get to know her better. If her character is solid, and her parents are responsible, then they likely won’t expect their daughter to raise their son. Besides, Trenton likes her—shouldn’t we support that? They were college classmates, so it’s likely he’s had feelings for her for a long time. He probably hasn’t confessed yet because he’s still observing.”
