Zachary protested, “Wife, don’t pin that on me. I’m not the evil one here. If they’re scheming, that’s on them. I’m not carrying the blame—it’s too much.”
“So, how’d the proposal go? Was it a success?” he asked, growing curious.
Serenity smiled. “Of course not. But River set a trap for Romina. I don’t know exactly what he’s planning, but she’s not getting away. He’s got her right where he wants her. They’ve been sparring for years—they know each other inside and out. Honestly, I think River has gone easy on her. If he were serious, Romina wouldn’t stand a chance.”
Zachary laughed. “River’s devious—but what do you expect? Look who trained us. Since he’s locked her in, you should come home early. I miss you so much.”
“We agreed to stay for ten days,” Serenity reminded him. “It’s still early.”
“Babe, if you count the day you left, we’re already halfway through,” Zachary said. “It’s not early at all.”
