Kathryn pursed her lips and said, “I think my mom still cared. If she didn’t, she wouldn’t have had four children with you, and she wouldn’t have been so angry when you cheated.”
Desperate for reassurance, Holden asked again, “Really? Did she love me?”
Then he laughed through his tears. “Kathryn, don’t try to comfort me. I know she never loved me. She only had children with me because she needed an heir. If IVF had been an option back then, she wouldn’t have married me at all.”
“When I cheated, it wasn’t because she cared about me. She was angry because I embarrassed her. She couldn’t stand my betrayal. Honestly, if Mr. Jimenez had returned sooner and been willing to be with her, she would’ve left me for him.”
