“You know that I’ve always been honest with you. You have a deeper understanding of human nature compared to us.” I spoke frankly. Mia’s face stiffened for a moment.
I suppressed my smile and lightly said, “If I say I don’t mind, it would be hypocritical. But if I say I do mind, it would make you uncomfortable since you’re my guest. It looks like you’re deliberately making things difficult for me.”
I could tell that my response left Mia in a dilemma.
I had deliberately said that. Why did I have to pretend everything was fine and make her feel comfortable? She had already made blatant moves against me, but she was acting as if nothing had happened when she saw me. It was unreasonable for me to just smile and talk to her as if nothing was wrong.
I used to think Arthur was too eager for success, but I hadn’t expected him to be so ruthless and cunning. He was willing to do anything that would benefit him.
Mia must have inherited some of those traits from her father.
