Always Been Yours Chapter 1401-Nicholas huddled closer and whispered, “But I want to come back home. Only when I hold you can I be at peace.” Feeling warm and fuzzy, Tessa smiled. She then told Nicholas to take a shower, then they slept in each other’s embrace.
Tessa woke up early the next morning. The first thing she saw was Nicholas sleeping soundly. He must be exhausted. She looked at him quietly and tiptoed out of the bed to wash herself up. An hour later, she came back to wake Nicholas. “Wake up, Nicholas. Breakfast time.”
Nicholas woke up, still groggy. He drawled, “What’s the time?” Tessa took his clothes for him, smiling. ‘Nine thirty. You were sleeping, so I didn’t wake you up. You deserve more rest.”
Nicholas looked at her gently. He took the clothes and pulled her into his embrace. “It’s good to have you here.” “You can get up now.” Tessa pushed him away gently with a smile and turned to prepare his clothes.
Nicholas got up, looking refreshed. He then had breakfast and got ready to go to work. Tessa and Gregory sent him off. Worried, Tessa said, “I know you’re busy, but please take care of yourself.”
“Take care of yourself, Daddy. Get some rest. Don’t make us worry,” said Gregory precociously. Nicholas looked at his family, and his heart melted. “I will.” He hugged Tessa and kissed her, then he went to work.
Tessa saw him off until his car was out of sight, then she led Gregory back into the house. Tessa went to Sawyer Group with lunchboxes every day after that, and every time she was there, she could feel the tension in the air.
Timothy was similarly busy. He had just opened a branch office and he had to make sure it was operating smoothly, so he didn’t even have time to see Tessa. All he could make were calls. “I don’t think I have time to see you for a while, Tess, but I’ll ask Sabrina to go over.”
“No. Sabrina can help you. I have my boys with me,” Tessa declined, but she was moved. Still, she was worried about Timothy as well. From time to time, she would ask a servant to send some soup over to him Surprisingly.
Tessa fell ill first, but it wasn’t shocking. She hadn’t fully recovered after what happened back then, and she hadn’t slept well from running around too much these few days. That decreased her immunity.
She woke up with her head feeling heavy. A fever? However, she didn’t tell Nicholas. After she saw Nicholas off and told Gregory to study, she could no longer keep a front, and she slumped.
Noticing her sickly demeanor, the butler came to her. “Madam, do you feel unwell? You don’t look too good.” “I think I’m down with a fever, Andrew, but don’t tell Nicholas. Just call the family doctor,” said Tessa weakly.
Yet, Andrew hesitated. “Are you sure you don’t want Master Nicholas to know?” “He’s busy enough as it is. I won’t burden him any further.” Tessa shook her head.
In the end, Andrew did as he was told, and the family doctor arrived shortly. He checked Tessa and said, “She’ll be fine. She’s down with a cold, but she should be better after some pills and rest.”
Always Been Yours Chapter 1402-“Thank you, doctor. Tessa nodded, telling the doctor to go on with the treatment. Not long after the doctor gave his prescription, the servants came back with the pills and a glass of warm water.
Tessa started feeling sleepy after taking the pills. She didn’t resist it, knowing that it was the pills’ effect. However, before she fell asleep, she summoned Andrew. “Andrew, I might need you to take Nicholas’ lunch to him, and don’t tell him I’m sick.”
“But…” I might not be able to lie to him. He didn’t manage to say that. Tessa had already fallen asleep, so Andrew took up the job. In the afternoon, he went to the company holding Nicholas’ lunch.
Edward led Andrew to the president’s office and knocked on the door. “Sir, it’s Mr. Stewart.” Surprised that Andrew was here, Nicholas frowned. “Wait. Where’s Tessa?”
Without thinking, Andrew told Nicholas of Tessa’s illness. Even though Tessa said to keep it a secret, Andrew knew Nicholas would still find out anyway in the end.
“She’s sick?” Shocked, Nicholas dropped all work and left. Andrew went after him quickly. Nicholas ran to the bedroom after he went home, and he saw Tessa lying in the bed looking red from the fever.
Her forehead was still hot. “You silly woman.” He pushed Tessa’s hair back. The moment Andrew told him she was sick, he knew she had been putting up a strong front that morning just so he wouldn’t worry.
Tessa slept on, not knowing that Nicholas had come home. She was frowning, perhaps feeling some discomfort. Nicholas quickly left and came back with a basin of cold water. He tried cooling her down with a towel, and thanks to that, her temperature dropped, and the frown on her forehead disappeared.
Nicholas heaved a sigh of relief, but he was still worried. In the end, he asked Edward to take all the files he needed to work on to him. And just like that, he worked and took care of Tessa at the same time.
Tessa only stirred when night came. She still felt weak, and her head still felt heavy. Withi difficulty, she tried to sit up.
Nicholas had been keeping an eye on her. Noticing her trying to get up, he quickly approached Tessa, looking worried. “You’re up. How do you feel?” Tessa was surprised to see him. “Nicholas? Why are you here?”
Nicholas said honestly, “You didn’t come during lunch. I asked Andrew, and he told me. Why didn’t you tell me you were sick?” He helped Tessa up and leaned her against the headboard.
Oh, he’s so serious. He’s mad. Sheepishly, she said, “I just didn’t want you to worry. Please don’t get mad at me.’ She held his hand. Nicholas couldn’t say no when his wife was being pouty. “You would only worry me more by keeping a secret.”
“No next time,” she promised while looking at him sincerely. Nicholas swallowed his lecture. ‘No next time.. How do you feel? Do you need the doctor?”
“It’s all right. I’m fine.” Despite her saying that, her voice still was hoarse, and she looked paler than ever. Perhaps it was because of the light.
Nicholas felt a little guilty. “I’m sorry I neglected you for work. Can’t believe I had to trouble you every day. He held Tessa’s hand, still worried about her.
Tessa squeezed his hand and smiled. “It’s all right. I’m fine. Compared to you, I have it easy. You have to deal with a whole company and keep a close eye on the saboteurs at the same time.”
Always Been Yours Chapter 1403-Moved by Tessa’s understanding, Nicholas’ heart melted. Words couldn’t describe how he felt. They chatted for a while, and then someone knocked on the door. “Master Nicholas, is the madam awake? Her soup is ready.”
“Take it here. She’s awake.” Nicholas held Tessa in his embrace. A while later, Andrew came in with the servant. Nicholas took the soup and fed Tessa himself.
She sipped on it and looked at him. “Have you had dinner?” “I will, once you finish yours.” Nicholas ladled some soup. Tessa didn’t eat but pushed the spoon toward him. “We’ll finish this together. I can’t do it on my own.”
Noticing the determination in her eyes, Nicholas agreed. Then, they finished the soup together, the scene of which was romantic. After a while, Nicholas summoned a servant and told her to clear things up, then he made sure Tessa took her pills. He asked, “Do you want to sleep?”
“No. I slept for the whole afternoon. Let’s just talk.” Tessa patted the space beside her and smiled at Nicholas. Nicholas wouldn’t refuse this invitation.
Gregory showed up a while later. “You’re awake, Mommy. Mr. Andrew said so. Do you feel better now?” He jumped onto the bed, his eyes filled with concern. Tessa patted his head and said gently. “Yes. Thank you, Greg.”
The boy heaved a sigh of relief, but the next second, he tensed up and sternly said, “Good. Now take care of yourself, Mommy. Don’t push yourself.”
Tessa was amused, and she nodded. Gregory turned to his father. “Since Mommy’s sick, can you tell me a bedtime story tonight, Daddy?”
Nicholas nodded and went to Gregory’s room. He tucked the boy in and told a bedtime story to him. Eventually, Gregory closed his eyes, drifting to sleep. His mouth was open slightly. and a smile curled his lips.
Nicholas stopped telling the story and stood up. Carefully, he tucked the boy in more and backed out of the room. When he came back to the main bedroom, the lights were still on, but Tessa was already asleep.
He came to the bed and smiled gently at Tessa. Then, he took his clothes off and pulled Tessa into his embrace. “Good night.” A kiss landed on Tessa’s forehead.
He switched off the lights. Silvery moonlight shone upon the couple from the window, keeping them safe. Tessa woke up feeling refreshed the next morning.
However, Nicholas was still worried. “How do you feel? Still dizzy?” “No. Don’t worry.” Tessa smiled and told Nicholas to wash up.
They went downstairs. Gregory had woken up. Seeing his mother coming down, he quickly approached her. ‘Are you alright now, Mommy?” “Yes. Thank you, Greg.” Tessa picked the boy up and gave him a kiss.
Gregory hopped around happily, and the family had a cheerful breakfast. After that, it was time for Nicholas to go to work. Before he left, Nicholas hugged Tessa. “You don’t have to take my meals to me anymore. Edward will make the orders for me.”
“Alright, but be sure to eat. I’ll call Edward to check in.” Tessa didn’t refuse. She knew Nicholas only did that because he was worried about her. If she were to fall sick again, Nicholas would push all work aside just to take care of her.
Always Been Yours Chapter 1404-She didn’t want to drag him down. Tessa didn’t say that out loud, of course. Nicholas went to work after she agreed to the arrangements. Not too long after he reached the office, Edward came to report about work.
Nicholas spent a few minutes delegating all the work for the day. Reminded of the events in Filisburg, he frowned. “How is the negotiation with Filisburg?”
“We’re still in the middle of it,” answered Edward. Nicholas’ face fell. “It’s been two days, but you still have nothing to show for it? What’s taking them so long?”
“Adam and Joseph refuse to hand over the ledgers,” said Edward, and then he told Nicholas what his men were facing. Nicholas’ face was as black as thunder and he exuded an intimidating aura.
Noticing the tension rising in the air, Edward tensed up. He looked at Nicholas carefully and gulped. “Maybe I should tell someone to look into the reason they’re refusing to work with us.”
“No. There’s only one-reason for that. They don’t want us to find out about their monkey business,” Nicholas hissed. Edward frowned for a moment, musing over the matter, and then he reached an unbelievable conclusion. “Sir, you’re saying they lost all the money?”
“No other reason would push them to take this risk.” Nicholas sneered. A while ago, his great uncles struck a deal with some businessman abroad behind his back. They used a lot of the company’s money for that, yet they still hadn’t given it back. Now, they were even using a falsified account to hide their tracks. Obviously, they had lost money.
Edward looked at Nicholas in tense silence. Nicholas sneered again, then he said, “And they must have lost a lot of money. More than our estimate, even. That’s why they took this risk.”
“They lost more than what we anticipated? That’s… brazen.” Edward was shocked. They really shouldn’t try to challenge Mr. Sawyer any further.
Nicholas narrowed his eyes, cold fury glinting within them. After a while, he came to a decision. “Tell your men to keep liaising with them, but dispatch another team to secretly look into the details of their transaction. Don’t let them find out.”
“Understood.” Edward nodded and left. For a few days after that, the tension that hung in the air of the company seemed to have disappeared.
The management who had been waiting tensely for Nicholas’ punishment took. notice of the lack of yelling. Eventually, thinking that this matter had blown over, some people were starting to relax.
Adam and Joseph were gathered in a garden of a beautiful manor in Filisburg’s capital. They were having some tea and played chess. Even though they were almost eighty, these men looked no older than seventy because they prioritized their health. They seemed energetic too.
“Our spy told us HQ is still demanding the ledger, but they aren’t doing anything big. It’s just formality, and Nicholas isn’t doing anything.” Adam made a move on the chess board and said, “That doesn’t seem right.”
Joseph dismissed his concern and laughed. “Of course, it’s right. That brat is clearly scared of us. We might be running the business abroad, but we have as much power as the main family.”
“I just don’t think it’s that simple.” Adam frowned. An uneasy feeling stirred in his heart, and he trusted his gut feeling. “It’s not like Nicholas to take this lying down. We took a lot of money from the company and tried to trick them with a falsified ledger. There’s no way he’s going to let that slide.”
“Ah, you’re reading into it too much. So, what if we took all their money? We’re still his elders, and he has no right to demand anything from us.”

“He’s a business genius, yes, but nothing else. Otherwise, he would’ve stopped us from gaining power. Joseph still thought nothing of Nicholas.
Adam didn’t argue with that. Joseph had a point. If Nicholas were that powerful, he would’ve made sure they could never gain power.
Joseph took Adam’s silence as agreement. He took another sip of tea and continued leisurely, “Don’t think too much about it. We’re still his elders. Even if he demands an explanation, he won’t do anything to us. He’s still rather young, but he’s going to be trouble in a few years.”
Despite his nonchalance, Joseph still was concerned about the doctored accounts. If Remus were to find out, things would be bad for them. “Still, take care of this. Dragging it out won’t be good for us.”
‘I’d like to, but this is a big hole to patch, and I still think something’s wrong. Let’s just see what happens.” Adam’s eyes glinted with slyness, and he sneered. “And you’re right. We’re still his elders. He won’t dare to do anything to us.”
Nicholas had no idea of this conversation, and he had indeed stopped all investigations regarding the account. At the same time, he asked Edward to tell everyone to stop talking about the matter. However, it wasn’t the end. Nicholas was just keeping it in until it was time to unleash his wrath.

“What seems to be the matter?” asked Remus. “Investigation is still pending, but the results should be out tomorrow,” said Nicholas. He would keep the truth a secret until he had all the details.
Kieran, who was beside Nicholas, couldn’t stay calm. “What investigation? We know what happened. Great Uncle Adam and Joseph have gone too far. They don’t show any respect to Nicholas. They-
“Kieran Sawyer!” Nicholas’ face fell.
Kieran met Nicholas’ gaze, and he shrunk a little. “Fine, I’ll shut up. Don’t give me that look.” He poked his food and muttered, “Dad and Grandpa are going to find out anyway.”
And they did. Even with the scarce clues, Tobias and Remus knew what was going on, judging from how Adam and Joseph had been managing the branch abroad.
Remus’ gaze turned sharp. I see my brothers are trying to start a coup. “If they start anything, crack down on them.” Remus looked at Nicholas. “I’ll deal with the aftermath.”
Nicholas nodded. “I know.” Well, this is tense. Stefania changed the topic. “I heard you were down with something.” She looked at Tessa. “What is it?”
Remus looked at Tessa with concern as well. “Getting better?” “Yes. I caught a cold, that’s all. I should be fine. once I finish my medication.”

Remus then told lan, “Prepare some supplements and send them to Nicholas’ place.” He looked at Tessa. “You need them.” Tessa smiled. ‘Thank you, Grandpa.”
After Nicholas had breakfast with Tessa the next day, he went to work. Not long after he stepped into his office, Edward came in looking solemn. “We’ve gotten the results, sir.”
“And?” Nicholas shot him a look. Edward reported, “Earlier this year, one of Adam’s companies was in the red. To not raise any suspicion, he used the money of another company to cover the first company’s losses.”
“Is that it?” Nicholas frowned. I don’t think it’s that simple. They wouldn’t have taken that risk with me if that was the case. They would have gone for a safer alternative and kept things hidden. Those sly old foxes.
Huh, now that you mentioned it, it does sound weird. “I should double check the amount of the losses and the branch’s reserves.” “Do that. And tell the finance department to help out.” Nicholas nodded.
Edward nodded. Their investigation yielded results later that day, and as they guessed, something was wrong. Edward came back looking somber. “You were right, sir. Something is indeed wrong.”
Nicholas squinted. “What did you find?” “After due diligence, we found a lot of inconsistencies in the ledgers. There’s a shortfall of about a hundred and fifty million.”
Nicholas’ face fell. He hissed, “Keep looking into it. I want to find out what that money was used for.” A hundred and fifty million is no joke As the severity of the situation finally dawned on Edward, he quickly went to investigate. An hour later, he came into Nicholas’ office in a hurry. “We might have a big problem, sir.”
“What is it this time?” Nicholas looked at him. With anger in his voice, Edward said, “I told my men to check the branch’s transaction history, and they found a big one. They paid a big sum of money for… something.”
“What do you mean by something?” Nicholas stared at Edward fixedly. He had a guess what that something was. Edward stammered, “I-Illegal stuff, sir.”
Nicholas shot up from his seat with a look of shock. In disbelief, he asked again, “What did you say?”
“Adam and Joseph have been using the company’s money to deal with contraband,” Edward bit the bullet and repeated himself while giving Nicholas more details. “And they’ve been doing it for a long time, so they must’ve made a ton of money from it.”
Nicholas was not just angry now. He was livid. It felt like the air around him would explode. “Moreover, they struck the deal using the company’s name, sir.”
Edward was staring at the ground by then as he was too scared to meet Nicholas’ eyes, but he could still feel the air of the office filling up with tension and fury. Nicholas’ rage was almost palpable, and Edward tensed up.
Like a serpent, Nicholas hissed, “How. Dare. They?”

Edward’s legs were buckling, but he could understand Nicholas’ fury. If this scandal were to surface, Sawyer Group would be the first to be hit by the court of public opinion.
They would think the company was filled with scoundrels and criminals. If worse came to worst, the company might fall. At this point, even Edward was angry at Adam and Joseph. How could they do this? This might bring the company down.
As Edward was musing over this matter, Nicholas hissed, “Get all the evidence of their crimes and force the Filisburg branch to give back every single cent they took.”
“What about Adam and Joseph’s contraband business?” asked Edward after some hesitation. A hint of cruelty flashed in Nicholas’ eyes. “They can drop dead for all I care. Just get the money back.”
“But that’d alert them.” Edward frowned. Nicholas didn’t care. “I couldn’t care less. What we need to do now is cut ties with them.” “I understand.” Edward left and started another round of investigation..
The moment he started making his move, Adam’s men in Filisburg got the news. It was dawn in Filisburg right now. Adam was having a leisurely time strolling in the garden while holding a bird cage.
A suited man came to him in a hurry. He was Adam’s most trusted lieutenant-Chester. “Sir, I have news. Someone let slip our operation. Nicholas just sent his men to audit those companies.” “He knows?” Adam was shocked, and he could no longer stay calm. His face fell and a frown furrowed his forehead. “Is your source reliable?”
“I’ve talked to a few branch managers. The HQ has sent someone to check in with them,” Chester answered, telling Adam the news he found out.
Adam could no longer sit still. Nicholas is starting his investigation, and he won’t stop until he finds the truth. I cannot let this happen. “Summon Joseph.”
“Yes, sir.” Chester left..
Joseph came running a short while later. “I heard from Chester, Adam. Nicholas’ men are auditing the accounts?” ‘Yes.’ Adam nodded coldly.
Joseph winced. “So, that means we have to pay.” He was a slave to money. Asking him to fork out that sum of money was as good as killing him.
Adam looked at Joseph. “Problem is, money alone can’t settle this,’ he said softly. “Why?” Joseph looked at him, confused.
Adam answered icily, ‘It was an act. He kept quiet because he was looking into our case behind our backs. Now I suspect that he knows what we’ve done and is cracking down on us.”
“He knows?” Joseph was shocked, and then panic showed in his eyes. “Sh*t. Sh*t. He’s going to kill us.” He then paused and looked at Adam nervously. “What now?”
“We have no choice. We must strike first.” A hint of malice appeared in Adam’s eyes. Shocked, Joseph looked at him in disbelief. “You want to attack Nicholas?”
Always Been Yours Chapter 1408-“If we don’t do anything, we’ll be the ones who suffer in the end. Do you want to go to jail? At your age?” Adam knew full well that if Nicholas unearthed all that they had done, they would still be brought to justice even if they were in at different country.
It went without saying that Joseph didn’t want to go to jail, but he was still hesitant. “But if we do anything to Nicholas, Remus will surely find out and he won’t let us off the hook either.”
“We’ll just make sure they don’t find out then,” Adam declared decisively. He couldn’t allow Nicholas to expose these things. Meanwhile, Nicholas had no clue about all of this.
The next morning, he had breakfast with Tessa and Gregory before heading to the office. He was so busy the whole morning that her couldn’t even take a break.
At the same time, inside Sawyer Group’s basement parking lot, a man in a security guard’s uniform snuck over to the car Nicholas drove this morning. “Tsk. What a shame. It’s such a nice car.”
The security guard studied the car pitifully before looking around to scan the vicinity. Once he was certain no one else was around, he went under the car and sabotaged the brakes.
As soon as he finished, he wriggled back out and hid his tools inside his uniform before pulling his cap down and sneaking away carefully. After leaving the parking lot, the man ducked into a hidden corner and made a call. “It’s done, sir.”
“Excellent. Hide your tracks well. Make sure no one traces this back to you.” The voice that replied was vicious and sinister. The man nodded and replied, “I will.”
That evening, Nicholas worked late to deal with the mountain of work that was piling on his desk. Soon, Kieran came in with a cup of coffee and an ingratiating smile..
“I brought you coffee, Nicholas.” He eagerly set the cup down beside Nicholas. Nicholas eyed Kieran and remarked evenly, “You want something from me. Go ahead and say it.”
“Hehe. You understand me the best, Nicholas. I’d like to borrow your car.” Kieran gave Nicholas a shoulder massage as he said what he wanted. Nicholas frowned. “Is your club racing tonight?”
“We weren’t planning on it, but a few challengers came over from the neighboring city, so we organized an impromptu race. It just so happens that I sent my car to the mechanic a few days ago and I haven’t gotten it back yet.”
Kieran gave a quick explanation before grinning at Nicholas. He was still giving the latter a massage. Nicholas flicked Kieran’s hands off disdainfully. but he tossed his car key over anyway. “Stay safe during the race.”
“Don’t worry. I’m a good racer.” Since Kieran got what he wanted, he was in a good mood.
He walked off with the key and was about to leave when a thought occurred to him “Don’t work too late, Nicholas. You should go home soon and spend more time with Tessa and Gordon.” “I can finish my work sooner if you don’t stick around and disturb me,’ Nicholas retorted, but his eyes softened.
He did like hearing his brother expressing concern for him. Kieran was unbothered by Nicholas’ response. He left twiddling the car key in his hand.
Soon, he arrived at the parking lot, located Nicholas’ car, and climbed in. Kieran drove out of the parking lot. However, when he joined the ring road, he realized that something was wrong with the brakes.
“The brakes aren’t working?” he murmured to himself with a frown. He knew that such an issue would never happen with Nicholas’ car, unless…
A terrifying thought emerged in his mind and he grabbed his phone to call Nicholas at once. Nicholas was still in the office when he saw a call coming in from Kieran, so he answered.
“What is it?” “I’m going to cut to the chase, Nicholas. I’m on the ring road right now. Someone tampered with your brakes. I’ll think of a way to stop the car. You need to send someone to come and get me right now.”
Always Been Yours Chapter 1409-Kieran quickly gave a summary of his current situation. Nicholas leaped to his feet with a grim expression. “Got it. Be careful. I’m coming over right now.”
He was going to tell Kieran to stay on the line, but Kieran ended the call. To avoid distracting Kieran, Nicholas had to hold in his anxiety as he rushed out of the office.
He ran into Edward who was just about to bring some documents to him. Edward noticed that Nicholas looked worried, so he asked, “Did something happen, President Sawyer?”
“Is your car here?” Nicholas asked instead. Edward was confused but he nodded and replied, “Yes. I drove to work today.”
“Bring the car around and take me to the ring road. Quickly! Nicholas instructed firmly. A few moments later, they were both in the car and rushing toward the ring road.
Nicholas kept repeating, “Speed up. Drive faster.” Edward complied at once as he stepped on the accelerator, but he still had no idea what was going on.
“Did something happen, President Sawyer?” “Kieran borrowed my car for a race but he was driving on the ring road when he realized something was wrong with the brakes.”
Nicholas filled Edward in on the situation. Edward’s expression shifted as he asked concernedly, ‘Is Vice President Sawyer alright?”
“I don’t want to call him up lest he gets distracted, but he’s a good driver. He should bet fine, right?” Nicholas wasn’t sure about the answer to his last question either.
Edward knew the severity of the situation and began picking up speed again. Alas, by the time they got to the ring road, it was too late.

Nevertheless, he didn’t get a response, though the crowd was abuzz around him. Edward caught up to Nicholas and asked, “President Sawyer, did you find Master Kieran?” “No. Call the traffic police, the fire and rescue
department, and the ambulance now,” Nicholas quickly made the arrangements as calmly as he could. Soon, the traffic police and the fire and rescue department rushed over to carry out the search and rescue mission.
Many reporters had rushed to the scene as well. “According to the information that’s currently available, the driver who got into an accident was Kieran Sawyer of Sawyer Group.”

Gregory was worried about Gordon. He tiptoed to check on his younger brother. Tessa looked down at the little boy in her arms and confirmed that he was completely fine.
Gregory exhaled in relief. However, Tessa had other things to fret about.
She glanced at her unconscious mother-in-law and quickly called the household staff over and assigned tasks to them. “You take Gregory and Gordon upstairs, and you, ask the family doctor to come over at once.”
