“This is Mr. Stone’s divorce agreement, Mrs. Stone,” Alexander Stone’s butler, Charles said as he handed a large manila envelope to Sophia.

“Mrs. Stone, you have a three-day window to sign the agreement and vacate the premises.” Charles watched Sophia with indifference, his demeanor calm as he spoke.

Although Sophia had been anticipating this moment, her heart sank upon the mention of the divorce agreement. She glanced at Charles, accepted the envelope, and extracted the divorce agreement from within.

“Ten million dollars of alimony as long as he never lays eyes on me again?” she scoffed, looking straight at Charles, whose expression remained inscrutable. “How can he possibly believe he can get away with such an absurd demand?”

She continued reading, “In accordance with the terms of the divorce agreement, it is acknowledged that Sophia Stone has failed to fulfill her marital obligations for a period of three years. As a result, Alexander Stone reserves the right to initiate divorce proceedings.”

“This is ridiculous. How could I fulfill my duties when I couldn’t even see my so-called husband? He’s never been under the same roof with me in three years.” Sophia tossed the papers aside.

What a mockery this made of her marriage. She felt like Alexander was shrugging her off. Like she was the water on a dog’s back that he simply got rid of by shaking vigorously. She felt insulted.

Three years ago, Sophia reluctantly entered a marriage arranged by her grandfather, who had laid out three tasks to her during this marriage: stay out of the public eye, assist Alexander in taking over Stone Enterprise, and be his unwavering support.

Though the contractual stipulation that she remain invisible to the public eye always puzzled her, she had promised her grandfather to not disappoint him. She resigned from her powerful position at her own law firm, and tried to embrace her role as the low-profile wife of a CEO who never appeared in public.

Alexander took over Stone Enterprise soon after they united, and then, he became the world champion in hide-and-seek.

In the beginning, she tried to maintain a connection with her husband by preparing lunches and visiting his workplace. Yet, she soon realized that Alexander was either never at the office or too preoccupied to meet her.

After six months of futile attempts, she accepted the bitter truth that fulfilling her grandfather’s directives was impossible. She channeled her energy into developing her hobbies, all in her pursuit of self-improvement, persuading herself to see this period of respite as a relief from her life as a renowned lawyer and founder of the world-famous law firm.

Yet, she refused to touch a single cent of the money he sent her. She had her own income, enough to lead a comfortable life until the end of her days

She was certain that her marriage would eventually come to an end, but she was appalled by the way Alexander Stone twisted the narrative to paint her as the one who had failed in her marital duties.

Sophia took a deep breath, resisting the urge to express her anger, and instead, she said sarcastically, “Well, where might my charming husband be today? As far as I can remember, a divorce agreement takes place between a husband and a wife, not a husband’s butler and a wife. Not to mention the fact that it’s an agreement and is thus supposed to include my terms as well, not just his.”

Charles stiffened his posture and replied, “Mr. Stone is in town, most likely at his office.”

“Oh? Is he alone, or was he accompanied by someone?” Sophia didn’t say it directly, but her message was clear.

“I cannot say for certain. All I can tell you is that he wishes for you to sign these papers, and he emphasized that he does not need to be present while you do so. That is precisely the way he prefers it.”

“As always, it’s what Mr. Stone prefers. He didn’t want to see me even at the end of our marriage, did he?” accused Sophia.

Charles didn’t answer her retort, he simply bowed to her, then turned on his heels and began walking away.

After the sound of his receding footsteps had vanished, Sophia picked up her phone and called Alexander’s office number—the only contact information she had for him which she had never even used in their three years of marriage. She was determined to know what was going on with this agreement that treated her as if she were a doll to be manipulated.

The phone kept ringing, but nobody picked up. She dialed again. Her patience and virtue had limits, and he was dancing dangerously close to those limits. On her third try, the call was finally answered. It was a young woman’s voice. “CEO’s office.”

“Hello, I’d like to speak to Alexander.”

“Who’s speaking?” the woman asked abruptly.

Sophia frowned when she heard the rude reply, but she kept her tone calm. “I’m his wife. You’re not his secretary, are you?”

The woman scoffed and didn’t even bother to answer her question. “Oh, I see. It’s his ex-wife to be precise. What do you want with Alexander?”

Sophia resisted the urge to get angry and said, “I have questions about the divorce terms he gave me.”

The dismissive voice on the other end of the line replied, “He won’t answer you. His attitude is already clear in the divorce agreement. As a useless wife, he feels that he has already given you enough. What more do you want?”

Sophia was especially caught by a couple of very specific words. “Useless wife? Is that what he said?”

The woman continued to play on her nerves. “You shouldn’t expect any more than what you’ve got. Just leave him. You didn’t deserve him anyway.”

As Sophia’s frustration threatened to boil over, she suddenly heard the approach of a man’s voice from the other end of the phone. Her heart raced in anticipation. “Emily, why are you answering my phone without permission? Stop being ridiculous!”

The voice identified as Emily responded with an unsettlingly playful giggle. “Alex, your wife is calling you. She has some questions about the divorce agreement,” she said, her tone dripping with sarcasm.

Sophia couldn’t help but let out a bitter laugh. So, this was the sordid truth behind the disintegration of their marriage – all for his mistress.

Alexander hesitated, the silence stretching out agonizingly before he finally picked up the phone. His voice oozed with disdain and indifference as he coldly declared, “I no longer have the need to sustain this marriage. I have given you enough money, and there’s no need for further discussion.”

Then, without a second thought, he hung up the phone.

Sophia stayed with her phone attached to her ear for a few seconds after they had finished the conversation.

Restless and agitated, Sophia paced around her living room, her frustration bubbling over. “Useless wife?” she muttered angrily. “What right does he have to call me that? He was never around as a husband, so what does he know about marriage?”

The feeling of disgust and humiliation consumed her. “Is this really how he sees me? Tossed aside like an old, worn-out rag once I no longer serve his purpose?”

Sophia had clung to hope in the early days of their marriage, telling herself that arranged marriages succeeded all the time.

“If I shower him with love, patience, and unwavering support, hoping like an idiot he’ll eventually see the powerful, intelligent, and remarkable woman I am,” she murmured to herself the entire time.

“And now this divorce papers,” she grumbled, “With which he mocks me by throwing the blame on me, when he and only he is to blame.”

But she refused to be silenced, dismissed, or swayed by the lure of mere money. “If this is the callous attitude he wants to take,” she vowed, “then he has another thing coming. I won’t let him escape the consequences of this ill-fated marriage without a battle.”

After a few moments, she picked up the papers strewn across the floor. She read through them once again, her eyes narrowing with determination.

“Dear, dear ex-husband,” she muttered, a triumphant smile playing on her lips, “it’s truly a shame you never bothered to get to know the real me. That’s going to be the biggest mistake of your life.”

With a flourish, she tore the divorce agreement in half and tossed it into the trash can. “Ten million dollars?” she scoffed, addressing herself. “It’s peanuts compared to the three years’ worth of sacrifices I’ve put into this relationship.”

“Ten million dollars as a tuition fee for the lesson I’m about to teach Alexander? Laughably inadequate,” she proclaimed. “I can get this kind of money just from one case of my law firm.”

If we’re going to get a divorce, it’ll be on MY terms, not his.

She picked up her laptop from the side table and began to draft a new agreement.

Swiftly, she composed her version of the divorce decree, skillfully incorporating her modifications within minutes. With satisfaction, Sophia printed the revised document, retrieving it from the printer’s tray.

Her fingers traced over the carefully crafted words as the smile on her face grew. Sophia reached for her Montblanc fountain pen and signed her name with resolute strokes, the ink flowing smoothly. “That is the last time I will ever sign as Sophia Stone,” she declared firmly.

Without hesitation, Sophia made her way to Alexander’s study. She knew there would be a Stone Enterprise seal there. Placing her mark at the bottom of the document, she returned it to its original envelope, sealing her fate.

After finishing all of these, she rang the bell from her room. The servant came hurrying in after a few moments.

“Ma’am, you called?”

“Yes, Peter. I need you to mail this document to Stone Enterprise and start packing my belongings. We are leaving.”

“Okay, Ma’am.”

At that very moment, Sophia knew she was free. She had put her life on hold for three long years, but no more. Finally, she could reclaim her autonomy and embrace the future she had planned for herself.

“It’s been three years. I don’t know if anyone remembers me.” She muttered. She felt empty after she had ended a marriage farce.

Her gaze wandered to the garden just outside the window, bathed in the soft glow of twilight. Sophia took one last lingering look at the carefully nurtured oasis she had tended with love and care for someone who mocked her.

Sophia reached for her phone with renewed purpose, dialing a familiar number. It rang just once before a voice answered on the other end.

Three days had elapsed since Alexander Stone had dispatched Charles to deliver the divorce papers. He paced back and forth within the confines of his opulent corner office, boasting a panoramic view of the city skyline.

He was waiting for a consequence. And he was not surprised to get the result he expected.

He knew that his soon-to-be ex-wife would sign the papers. He offered a very generous price for this transaction, far higher than what she has paid in this marriage, but of course, she is taking the full three days to finish this sham of a marriage.

A soft knock at the door preceded Laura’s entrance. Laura, a trusted employee who had taken on the role of Alexander’s secretary, held an envelope containing the divorce decree, laying it delicately on the polished surface of his desk.

“She signed and has moved out,” Laura announced simply, her tone carrying an air of finality.

“Of course. She should be.” Alexander replied.

“It’s about damn time,” Emily Williams, a Branch Manager for Stone Enterprise, breezed into the office, her long black hair trailing behind her like a curtain of shadows.

“You should have kicked her out of that house years ago.”

Emily was Alexander’s childhood friend. Their families had been business partners, so naturally, Emily and Alexander were also business partners. Alexander treated her as his little sister.

Meeting Emily’s gaze, Alexander frowned, “Emily, you know why things had to unfold this way.”

He has always been a man that whatever he wanted, no matter the cost. This marriage was a way for him to seize control of the family business, so he took it.

“Maybe,” Emily responded, “but she lived in your house and relied on you for support while offering nothing in return. It’s fantastic that you’ve finally put that chapter behind you!”

Alexander exhaled deeply, he leaned back in his luxurious chair.

“It’s all about the damn responsibilities. We all know the story. My grandfather was saved—whatever that means—by Sophia’s grandfather when they were just children. In return, my grandfather promised me to Sophia a transaction drenched in obligation.”

“A truly beautiful romance,” Emily scoffed with sarcasm. “Two star-crossed lovers who had never seen each other in their entire marriage.”

“Regardless of what it was, it’s done,” Alexander declared. “I have fulfilled my duty to my grandfather.”

The phone’s shrill ring pierced the air, jolting both Alexander and Emily from their conversation. Without hesitation, Alexander pressed the speaker button, allowing the urgency in the caller’s voice to flood the room.

“Mr. Stone, some emergency happened! Please turn on the television! Right now!” The voice on the other end delivered frantic instructions.

Alexander frowned, but he complied.

Bewilderment etched themselves on Alexander’s face as he turned to Emily, searching for answers. “What the hell is going on?” he demanded, “Who leaked the news of divorce to the damn press?”

Emily, taken aback by the sudden turn of events, could only offer a shrug, her tone lacking conviction.

“I have no idea,” she confessed. “But you know, people love to jump on these types of stories. Anyone could have leaked it.”

As tension thickened in the room, a forceful knock on the door shattered the silence, announcing the arrival of Steven Mhyler, one of Alexander’s trusted lawyers. His demeanor betrayed a sense of urgency as he hastily entered the room, his attention consumed by the news he was about to share.

“Ah, good, you are both here,” Steven declared, seemingly oblivious to the charged atmosphere that enveloped the office. His focus remained steadfast on the critical information he was about to divulge.

“I have news. I think you should take a seat.”

Alexander continued standing, now glaring at Steven.

“Just spit it out,” he commanded, could not hide the irritation in his voice.

After taking a deep breath Steven began, “I took a closer look at the modified terms and we have a few problems.”

“Modified? She modified it?” Alexander grabbed the paperwork from Steven’s hand with so much force that they almost rip.

“Take a look at amendment B. It states’ In the matter of the divorce proceedings between Mr. Alexander Stone and Mrs. Sophia Stone, it is hereby decreed that Mrs. Sophia Stone shall retain ownership and control of forty-five percent (45%) of the shares in the subsidiary company, hereinafter referred to as the “StoneTech Solutions” of Stone Enterprises.”

“StoneTech Solutions is mine. Alexander! It’s mine. If you don’t solve this problem, it is going to be taken over by someone else. Fix it,” A gasp catches in Emily’s throat. Emily demands as tears begin to well in her eyes.

“This woman! I gave her more than she was worth and she wants more?” Alex’s voice gradually became deep and husky, which is a typical sign when he gets furious.

“Fix this immediately, Steven!”

Under the intense gaze of the CEO, he broke out in a cold sweat.

Steven pipes up, “I think we have to discover a potential avenue to recoup your losses from the shares that Sophia stole in her modification. Time is of the essence. In order to do this, though, we must swiftly exploit a legal loophole.”

A heavy sigh escaped his lips. “Now,” he admitted, his voice tinged with regret. “Closing this loophole is far beyond my expertise. We will need to seek specialized assistance to navigate the complexities.”

Frustration welled up within Emily, her patience wearing thin. She let out an exasperated huff, unable to contain her dismay.

“You have to fix this, Alex,” Emily pleaded, her voice laced with urgency and a hint of desperation.

Alexander’s countenance turned increasingly bleak, the weight of the situation settling upon his shoulders.

“How do you expect me to fix it, Emily?” Suddenly, he was growing weary of her stupidity.

Laura, who had been silently observing the tense exchange, stepped forward with a calm determination, offering a suggestion that captured everyone’s attention.

“I might have an idea,” she stated, her voice steady and composed. “We could reach out to Ms. Johnson.”

The mention of this mysterious figure caused Steven to shift uncomfortably in his seat, his unease palpable.

“Alexander, you weren’t here the last time she ‘helped out’ as Laura said. Just, be careful with your decision.”

Pausing to reflect, Alexander leaned back in his chair, his gaze shifting from person to person in the room. He contemplated the potential risks and rewards that lay ahead.

Flashing cameras momentarily blinded him, and microphones were thrust into his face, each reporter vying for his attention.

Amidst the frenzy, their questions bombarded him like a relentless onslaught. “Is there any truth to you marrying the daughter of a Senator?” one reporter demanded.

Another chimed in, “Can you finally reveal the name of your ex-wife?”

Alexander’s interest piqued further. He stopped at the door to the car, closed the door, and took a step closer to Laura. “Tell me more about her,” he demanded.

Laura paused, momentarily taken aback by the sudden intensity in Alexander’s voice. “Well,” she began, collecting her thoughts, “she’s the daughter of the late Judge Simon Johnson. She is a legendary lawyer in her own right. She has never lost a case as a corporate lawyer. She is also the founding partner of Johnson and Associates, which, as everyone in town knows, is a highly regarded law firm, considered one of the best, if not the best, in their field.”

“Hmm,” Alexander murmured, processing the newfound information.

Laura continued, a small laugh escaping, “But here’s something you might find interesting—that is the woman that will be helping us solve our problem.”

“Her? The lawyer I instructed you to contact for assistance with the subsidiary loophole? That’s the Ms. Johnson you were talking about?” Alexander narrowed his eyes. An imperceptible smile hung on his lips.

Laura nodded with a smile. “Yes, the very same.”

As Laura opened the door to the back of the car again, Alexander firmly grasped her arm, halting her movement. His mind whirled with thoughts and possibilities. “Tell me everything else you know about Ms. Sophia Johnson,” he demanded. His voice, while deep and authoritative, betrays his profound interest.

Laura hesitated for a moment, contemplating what, if anything, she possibly could share.

“Aside from the two occasions she has advised our firm in the past, I don’t have much additional information. She has maintained a relatively low profile, except within legal circles, I presume. Ms. Johnson is known for her exceptional legal insight and the ability to navigate complex situations with finesse,” she explained.

“I have never heard anything disparaging about her, but to be honest, I have not really heard anything about her. As I said, she keeps a low profile.”

Not completely satisfied with her response, Alexander released his grip on Laura’s arm, allowing her to slide into the car.

As he settled into his seat, the driver merged into traffic. The mysterious image of Sophia Johnson’s face remained etched in Alexander’s mind, captivating his thoughts,“Find out everything you can dig up about her. The quicker, the better.”

“There is no way. She hasn’t been in for over three years. Why today?” the woman seated at the reception desk whispers.

Another woman, with an air of curiosity, approaches the desk and leans in, her voice hushed. “I heard she had a major something happen, which is why she is returning.”

“Well, I heard that major something is that she lost a lot of money in some sort of deal,” the man murmurs back, sharing the gossip.

At that precise moment, the sleek chrome doors of the elevator swish open, revealing Sophia Johnson stepping out with an air of confidence. Her face remains impassive and composed as she looks discerning at the employees gathered around the reception desk.

“Yes, I’m back,” she remarks, her words seeping with authority. The employees quickly disperse, sensing the power that emanates from her presence. Sophia strides purposefully towards the desk, her footsteps echoing through the room.

“Excellent! I thrive on problems that only I can solve,” Sophia interjects, a mischievous twinkle dancing in her eyes.

The company’s chairman, who needs to testify against the share transfer, has fallen seriously ill,” Trevor explains, passing the papers of the brief to Sophia.

Sophia takes a moment to peruse the documents, her face betraying no sign of the complexity before her. She takes a deep breath, her mind racing with possibilities, and gazes at Trevor. “How grave is the chairman’s condition?”

“It’s quite serious. I believe it’s cancer. Our investigation shows that he’s nearly lost his ability to speak,” Trevor replies.

Trevor swiftly dials the extension for one of the law firm’s partners. The phone rings once before a familiar voice emanates from the speaker. “Sophia? Are you back? I must admit, I was surprised to see your name on the caller ID.”

“I’m back, John, and already diving into the depths of it,” Sophia responds. “Have you reviewed the briefing on the illegal share transfer that Trevor just shared with me?”

The partner quickly responds, his voice filled with uncertainty. “Honestly, Sophia, I’m at a loss on how to proceed. If anyone can get a handle on it, it is you!!”

“Well, what about the client’s share transfer contract? I’d like to take a look at it. We can examine the handwriting and see if it matches,” Sophia suggests over the speakerphone.

“That’s a brilliant idea, Sophia,” John acknowledges.

“But,” John continues, “the opposing party has taken the contract. We have no means to retrieve it. The fact of the matter is that if this persists, the company will fall victim to a hostile takeover.”

Emily remains unfazed by Sophia’s intensity as she leans in slightly, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper, “But you wish he were more, right?”

Sophia’s patience wears thin, her brows creasing in annoyance. She can’t help but roll her eyes, no longer able to contain her exasperation. “I promise you, Ms. Williams, I do NOT wish for anything more.”

As Sophia delivers her decisive response, her attention is abruptly drawn to Alexander, who had been standing discreetly in an open doorway, quietly observing the entire exchange. She notices a flicker of uneasiness in his expression, a hint of concern that catches her off guard.

However, Emily remains tenacious, unwilling to let go of the topic. She persists, “Fine, then maybe you can tell me what type of man you don’t like, so I can avoid introducing such guys to you.”

Sophia, aware of Alexander’s presence and mindful of her words, takes a measured breath before responding, her voice composed yet firm, “Sure, I don’t like the type of man who refuses to divide his property with his ex-wife after they get divorced.”

Emily’s attention shifts, her gaze now directed at Alexander. Sensing the weight of the conversation, Sophia continues her verbal assault, unyielding in her determination to make her point.

“Take Mr. Stone here,” Sophia continues, her voice unwavering. “After his divorce, he did everything in his power to ensure that his ex-wife couldn’t receive the fair share of money she rightfully earned during their marriage.”

Alexander’s features tighten, his irritation palpable as Sophia’s words strike a nerve.

With a swift retort, Emily interjects, attempting to defend Alexander. “Mr. Stone’s ex-wife is a lazy, greedy, poor woman who only wants his money.”

Sophia scoffs inwardly, thinking, well, this lazy, greedy, poor ex-wife saved your company from significant financial losses.

Turning her gaze back to Alexander, Sophia meets his eyes with unwavering intensity, her voice cool and measured as she poses her question, “Do you agree, Mr. Stone? Is your ex-wife truly as lazy and greedy as portrayed?”

10 “We Need Her, Emily”

Alexander looks at Sophia suspiciously, a hint of curiosity in his eyes as he considers her interest in his ex-wife.

However, before he can respond, Emily interjects, her voice laced with defensiveness, “How is this any of your business or concern, Ms. Johnson?”

Sophia, growing weary of Emily’s presence and eager to distance herself from Alexander, lets out an exasperated sigh and turns to leave. But Emily reaches out, lightly grabbing Sophia’s arm, and continues.

“Alexander’s ex-wife was a mistake from the start. She has cost him millions of dollars that she in no way deserves. The woman is trash. She is not even worth still having a conversation about.”

Sophia shrugs off Emily’s hand, her eyes narrowing as she locks gazes with Alexander. “Could you please call off your attack dog? You clearly have no intention of answering my question, and I have important work to attend to.” A smirk plays at the corners of her lips as she delivers her biting remark.

Emily gasps, her voice filled with indignation, but Alexander swiftly interrupts her. “There’s no need for name-calling, Sophia. And I did intend to provide you with an answer.”

“Forget it,” Sophia retorts dismissively, her frustration mounting. Alexander, attempting to maintain a semblance of composure, responds, “I fail to see why you’re getting so upset. I agree that Emily spoke out of turn, but….

Cutting him off, Sophia’s anger rises, her voice escalating in volume, “To be honest, Mr. Stone,” she interjects, her tone dripping with sarcasm, “I couldn’t care less about your opinions or those of your friend.” She waves her hand dismissively in Emily’s direction.

“I disagree, Ms. Johnson. You seem to care quite a bit about my opinion,” Alexander retorts, irritation seeping into his voice.

Sophia opens her mouth to continue her retort, but Alexander interrupts her firmly, “And I expect you to treat my friend, Ms. Williams, with more respect than you have shown.”

Disgust flickers across Sophia’s face as she locks eyes with Alexander. But instead of responding, she spins on her heels and storms down the hallway.

“Thank you for defending me,” Emily responds wistfully as she watches Sophia disappear down the hallway.” She’s such a bitch.”

Alexander shoots Emily a stern look, silently admonishing her choice of words, before he quickly moves to chase after Sophia, determined to address the brewing conflict between them.

He reaches Sophia just as she frantically presses the down button for the elevator. “Why are you so mad at me, Sophia? I really don’t understand,” Alexander pleads, his voice filled with confusion. Regaining her composure, Sophia turns to face Alexander directly.

“Mr. Stone, I am not angry at you. As I stated before, I have no personal emotions toward you. You are simply a client. However, I do feel sympathy for your ex-wife.”

Baffled by her response, Alexander questions further, “Why, though? Do you know her? Unfortunately, everything Emily said about my ex- wife and our relationship is true. We were incompatible in so many ways. Our backgrounds and values clashed. She just couldn’t understand who I was as a businessperson and as a man.”

That is complete bullshit, and we both know it, she thinks to herself. The real reason was that tramp Emily. You and she were having an affair, and our three -year marriage meant nothing to you. Sophia’s anger surges, her thoughts racing as she gazes at Alexander.

“As a man? Maybe you don’t know how to treat a woman as a woman.” Continuing to press the down button, Sophia retorts with biting sarcasm.

Alexander grabs her hand; exasperation etched across his face. ” Sophia, I have to tell you, this ‘hard-to- get’ game does not work on me, so I suggest you drop it. Many women like to go down that route, but it’s not a great look for you.”

Sophia lets out a disbelieving laugh.

“Now see, a laugh is so much better. What do they say about getting more with honey than vinegar?” he quips, leaning in closer while still holding her hand. Pleased with himself, Alexander allows a small smile to cross his facelets a small smile figured her out.

Appalled by his actions, Sophia quickly pulls her hand away but remains close to him. She whispers, “I am beginning to think something is seriously wrong with you, Mr. Stone. You should probably consider seeking professional help.”

The elevator doors chime and open. Sophia steps into the elevator, her stilettos echoing in the confined space. She presses the hold button for the doors, her sapphire eyes locking onto Alexander’s.

“Mr. Stone,” she begins with a cold determination, “Let me make this very clear so there is NO confusion. You are a client and nothing more to me. The moment this case is over, I promise you, I’ll never think of you again. So please, do not confuse my disinterest with playing hard to get.”

She releases the door button, allowing it to close, but before it does, she delivers her final words. “Do not ever touch me again. Now, run back to your friend and leave me alone.”

After the elevator door closes, Alexander stares at his reflection in the polished chrome, feeling confused and embarrassed by Sophia’s cutting words.

As he stands there, a new idea settles over him. Determined, Alexander turns and returns to the conference room, where Emily is still sulking. He takes out his phone and dials Laura’s number. As Laura answers the call, Alexander wastes no time getting to the point.

“Laura, I need you to do something for me. Pull up my schedule for the past five years and also Ms. Johnson’s schedule. I want a detailed list of any and every time we might have crossed paths.”

Upon reaching the conference room, Alexander finds Emily gazing out the window, clearly pouting and waiting for his return.

“Alex,” she begins, “I really don’t see the need to chase after her.” Taking a deep breath, Alexander’s tone turns firm.

“We need her, Emily. She’s crucial to our success in this share’s business. If you keep saying things that irritate her, she might refuse to help, and both of us stand to lose a significant amount of money. Or have you forgotten about that?”

Emily’s expression softens, realizing the gravity of the situation. “It’s just that I…”

Cutting her off, Alexander’s voice holds a hint of impatience. “I don’t care about the reasons, Emily. We need her on our side, and you need to keep your mouth shut. Do you understand?”

Emily nods, her voice subdued. “Yes, I understand. I’ll be more careful. But still, I don’t understand why you’re so focused on Sophia Johnson.”
