Give us sixty thousand dollars to pay his debt, and we won’t make a fuss about you not taking care of us.” Maria burst out laughing as if she’d just heard the punchline of a great joke. She turned to Sidney, “Isn’t this hilarious? They abandoned me at an orphanage because I was a girl, and now they come crawling back asking for money.” Sidney’s face grew cold as he listened. He hadn’t known about Maria’s past, and hearing it now left him angry on her behalf.

After a moment’s pause, he said, “We can call the police. You can report them for abandonment.”

Maria blinked in surprise. “Why didn’t I think of that? Let’s do it.”

“Alright,” Sidney responded, pulling out his phone and swiftly calling the police.

Gorden hadn’t expected things to take this turn. Not only did Maria refuse to give them any money, but now she was going to call the cops on them!
