Madam Nightfox tilted her head, her tails swaying behind her. “Mr. Chance, do you want us to come with you to Nether City?”

Jared shook his head. “No. The city’s nature is too unusual. Your presence could cause complications. Luther will come with me.”

He looked over the gathered leaders. “While I’m gone, oversee the alliance. If the Fourteenth Firmament makes any move, notify me immediately.”

“Rest easy, Mr. Chance!” they replied in unison.

Jared gave a single nod. Then he and Luther shot into the sky, two streaks of light racing toward Nether City.
