“Rania, return to your quarters.”

Julian’s voice was quiet, but edged like steel.

The command settled over the room with unmistakable weight. No one could mistake it for a request.

Rania shot Jared a worried glance. He answered with the faintest nod.

Her skirts swirled in tight, frustrated circles before she turned and retreated to her suite.

When her footsteps faded, the side hall fell into silence.

Only Julian and Jared remained, a pot of cooling tea between them.
