Footsteps approached again. Luther led two men in black into the room. They hovered somewhere between consciousness and oblivion, heads lolling as if sleep had hardened into stone.

They had followed Quentin for years, blades tucked beneath vows of loyalty. Every flick of his brow was etched into their muscle memory.

Jared studied them briefly, then turned to Luther. “Use your Nether Heart Control Incantation. I’ll layer a Chaotic Restriction Seal over it. Together, they’ll obey—and they won’t remember why.”

A cold sheen passed through Luther’s eyes.

He knelt beside the guards, checking their pulses before murmuring, “My soul threads already wounded their spirits. They were fragile to begin with. With your chaotic force reinforcing the seal, they’ll stay compliant—for now.”

He lowered his voice. “Their souls are frayed. If I anchor the incantation deep and you lock their memory strands, they’ll hold through a short march.”

A pause. “But it won’t last. If they suffer a shock beyond their limits, the seal could loosen—or even rebound.”
